A forced-reset trigger (FRT) is an aftermarket trigger device for semi-automatic rifles (most commonly AR-15 pattern rifles) that mechanically shortens the trigger’s reset after each shot so the shooter can pull again sooner. In design intent FRTs still require a separate trigger action for each round, but because the device forces the trigger forward quickly the shooter can often achieve a much faster cadence than with a stock trigger. FRTs change the rhythm of shooting (speed and feel) rather than convert a gun to true automatic fire — which is the central reason regulators have examined them closely.
